Northwestern Law Logo and Identity

In 1998, as part of our strategic planning process, Northwestern Law developed a dynamic, energetic, change-oriented identity system.

The Northwestern Law brand must be implemented consistently across all media to be effective. Incorporating the Northwestern Law name, logo, and overall message into any Law School-related promotional materials benefits both the Law School and the individual programs and projects using the name and logo.

Programs and projects that have accurately and effectively incorporated the brand into promotional materials benefit by being easily recognized as legitimate Northwestern Law-supported initiatives, which may increase interest or response. Thus, the Law School overall benefits from wider exposure to more varied audiences.

Note that Northwestern Law may not be listed as a sponsor or collaborating presenter and the logo may not be included on any print or electronic publicity materials created by non-Northwestern Law groups or organizations without first contacting Kathleen Gleeson, director of marketing and communications.

Logo
The Northwestern Law logo should be included in any official communication regarding Northwestern Law news or events.

Please do not attempt to take the logo from the website or scan it from other sources in order to design any print or electronic publications on your own. The Marketing and Communications team must be involved from the beginning with the design and production of any publications that use the Northwestern Law logo.

Some pre-approved templates that include the logo are available on our site.

Name
The correct name of the Law School must be used in all marketing materials and when promoting news or events.

Correct Use: "Northwestern University School of Law" on first reference. Subsequent references can use "Northwestern Law" or "the Law School."

Incorrect Use: Do not use any abbreviation with "NU," such as "NULS," "NU Law School," "NUSL," "NU Law," or various versions such as "Northwestern Law School," "Northwestern University Law," "Northwestern School of Law," "Northwestern University Law School," etc.

For guidelines on our preferred forms of style and usage, please refer to the Editorial Style Guide.

Message
In order to effectively promote and enhance Northwestern Law's reputation as a leader in legal education, we must all communicate the same message about the Law School to all audiences. Every member of the Northwestern Law community should be able to explain the five points of distinction that we call the Northwestern Law Difference.
