May 05, 2009

The negotiation team from Northwestern Law recently placed first at the American Bar Association’s 25th Annual National Negotiation Competition.

Leslie Garbarino JD ’09 and Jacob Babcock JD ‘09 were named 2008-2009 National Champions after four rounds of competition during the ABA’s mid-year meeting in Boston. The team defeated twenty-three other teams, including those from Boston College Law School, Washington and Lee School of Law, and the University of California-Davis School of Law.  More than two hundred teams competed in ten regional competitions in the hopes of qualifying for the national competition.

Northwestern Law’s team will represent the United States in the International Competition this summer. The team is part of Northwestern’s Program on Negotiation and Mediation and is coached by Lynn Cohn, director and clinical associate professor of law, Sheila Maloney, assistant director and clinical assistant professor of law, and Daniel Gandert, clinical fellow.
