The Children and Family Justice Center recently hosted a symposium at the Law School entitled Seize the Moment: Justice for the Child, which was presented in partnership with the Northwestern Journal of Law and Social Policy.
The symposium consisted of panel discussions and speakers discussing such topics as Children Separated from Their Families, Children Deprived of Liberty and Advocating for the Whole Child.
The symposium culminated with a benefit dinner celebrating the CFJC’s anniversary. The featured speaker was James Bell, the Executive Director of the W. Haywood Burns Institute for Juvenile Justice, Equity and Fairness. Bell works with systems and community stakeholders to reduce the disproportionate number of youth of color in the juvenile justice system in over 40 jurisdictions throughout the country
The Children and Family Justice Center is a comprehensive children's law center where law students, under the supervision of attorneys and clinical professors, represent young people on matters of delinquency and crime, family violence, school discipline, health and disability, and immigration and asylum.
