Recently, two teams represented Northwestern Law School’s Bartlit Center in national trial advocacy competitions meeting with great success.
The team of Lauren Hillemann JD ‘12, Kilie Latendresse JD ’12, MJ Sweis JD ‘13 and Andrew Gilbert JD ’13, took first place in the Chicago Region of the ABA Labor Law Competition. Hillemann, Latendresse, Sweis and Gilbert will now go on to compete for the national championship in Miami.
Another Bartlit Center team -- Mark Duric JD ’12, Lauren Caisman JD ‘13, Tim Hoppe JD ’12, and Alexandra Brodman JD ‘13 – reached the final four in the same tournament. As it happened, the two Northwestern Law School teams were seeded in the same bracket for the semifinals, so only one could advance to the final round.
In combination, Northwestern’s teams defeated trial teams from Wisconsin, Illinois, Washington University, Loyola-Chicago and Southern Illinois. Their only loss in the entire tournament was when one NU team defeated the other by a split decision. Northwestern’s ABA teams were coached by Michael Leonard of Meckler Bulger and Rob Robertson of the Law Office of Robert Robertson, as well as Northwestern trial team alumni Kendrick Washington, Malorie Medellin, and Patrick Emerson.
