Northwestern Law is pleased to highlight a number of exciting events scheduled for Spring 2013.

Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture Series, January 14-17
In recognition of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Northwestern University's Law School and Feinberg School of Medicine will host a week of programming January 14-17. The 2013 lecture series titled "To What Are We Entitled? The American Dream Revisited,” will feature programs related to the legacy of Dr. King. Northwestern University will be closed on Monday, January 21, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Hispanic Law Students Celebration, January 29
Join the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois (HLAI), Quarles & Brady LLP, Northwestern University School of Law, and the Northwestern Latino Law Student Association in celebrating Hispanic law students in their efforts to overcome adversity and diversify the Illinois legal community. This event will be held in Lowden Hall on Tuesday, January 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dean Rodriguez will serve as the keynote speaker. If you are interested in attending this event, please e-mail Michelle Connors at RSVP-IL@quarles.com by Friday, January 25.

Spring On-Campus Interview (OCI) Program, January and February
First, second, and third-year JD students, as well as LLM Tax and LLM International students, are encouraged to interview during Spring 2013 OCI, which will take place January 29-February 1.There are no registration fees or scheduling costs associated with this program. There is lottery system, based on student bids and availability, to grant interviews conducted on campus. 

Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology Symposium, February 1
Northwestern Law’s Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology will host a live symposium featuring a keynote address by former Attorney General Edwin Meese on February 1.

50th Annual Julius H. Miner Moot Court Competition, February 7-March 8
Preliminary rounds for the 50th Annual Julius H. Miner Moot Court Competition will take place February 7, 11, 18, and 21.  The final round will take place March 8.

Global Village, February 15
Join the Northwestern Law community in a celebration of culture, which includes home-cooked food from all over the world, international music, presentations, national attire, and performances.  More than 20 percent of our community comes from outside the United States, providing all of us an opportunity to share with and learn from each other.  The annual Global Village event, presented by international JD, LLM, and LLM/Kellogg students, will take place in Thorne Lobby on Friday, February 15, from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Pope & John Lecture Series on Professionalism, February 26
Former U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald will visit the Law School for the 2013 Pope & John Lecture on Professionalism. His speech will take place on Tuesday, February 26, at 5:30 p.m. in Lincoln Hall.

Diverse Admit Day and AJD Open House, March 7
The Admissions and Diversity Education and Outreach teams have planned an event to welcome diverse admitted students and accelerated JD students. This two–day event is designed to help prospective students get better acquainted with Northwestern Law and see why it's the place to go for law school.

Searle Center Book Conference: An Injury Law Constitution by Marshall S. Shapo, March 14-15
The Searle Center on Law, Regulation, and Economic Growth will host a book conference that will focus on Professor Marshall S. Shapo’s book, An Injury Law Constitution, on March 14-15. Each session will focus on a particular chapter of the book and will begin with an introduction by Professor Shapo, followed by a designated commentator, and then an open discussion.  Professor Shapo will provide brief wrap-up remarks to close out each session. This event is open to all Northwestern Law faculty.

International Team Projects (ITP), March 16-April 1
Students involved in ITP gain firsthand experience in international legal and business environments through a combination of semester-long research, an intense two-week field study abroad during spring break, and a final group project. This year's ITP groups will conduct research in the following countries: Australia, Brazil, Cambodia and Vietnam, Chile, Ethiopia, Greece, and Morocco and France.

Tax Symposium: 100 Years Under the Income Tax, April 5
The Northwestern University Law Review and the Tax Program are hosting a day-long symposium on April 5 focusing on the legal, political, and social implications of the income tax.

Admitted Students Weekend, April 5-7
Northwestern Law will welcome more than 100 admitted students to Admitted Students Weekend April 5-7. The student admissions committee, have worked with the Admissions team to plan special events to introduce admitted students to the Law School. We hope that after spending some time as part of the Northwestern Law community, these admitted students will choose to join us next fall.

Trienens Visiting Judicial Scholar, April 8-9
Hon. Guido Calabresi, senior judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, will visit the Law School as the 2013 Trienens Visiting Judicial Scholar. Established in 1989 by partners of Sidley Austin to honor Howard J. Trienens JD ’49, the Trienens Visiting Judicial Scholar program exposes students and faculty to perspectives on the judicial process and contemporary legal issues through lectures and other programs by leading jurists.

Spring Law Board Meeting, April 12-13
The spring Law Board meeting will bring together graduates and friends of the Law School who are distinguished members of the bar, the business world, and the government and not-for-profit sectors. The Law Board serves to advise the faculty and administration on the future course of the Law School.

2013 Graduation Week, May 13-17
The graduation committee is busy working with the Student Services team to plan this year's Graduation Convocation, which will take place Friday, May 17, at 1:30 p.m. at the Chicago Theatre.  Graduation week will feature additional activities throughout the week to celebrate the Class of 2013.
