Northwestern Law Welcomes the American Society of International Law

Northwestern Law is proud to host the American Society of International Law’s Annual Midyear Meeting and Research Forum as a 2014–2015 Academic Partner. The meeting will be held November 6–8, 2014, and will bring scholars from around the world to discuss current issues in international law. Additional information can be found on the ASIL’s Midyear Meeting and Research Forum website.

The American Society of International Law’s mission is to promote the study of international law and the establishment and maintenance of international relations based on law and justice. ASIL hosts a number of scholarly events every year; publishes a series of journals, books, and newsletters; and sponsors education programs for attorneys, judges, and the general public.

A number of Northwestern Law faculty members will participate in the research sessions at the Midyear Meeting. Associate Dean Janice Nadler will discuss empirical approaches to studying international law as part of the research forum that Professor Jide Nzelibe will moderate; Professor David Scheffer will serve as discussant for a research session on the evolving practices of prosecuting atrocities; Professor Karen Alter will speak on the backlash against international courts in West, East, and Southern Africa, and she will also serve as discussant for a research session on international law theory and political science; Professor Juliet Sorensen will serve as discussant for a research session on stemming transnational crime; and Professor Bridget Arimond will serve as discussant for a research session on domestic courts and international humanitarian law.
