Brendan Dassey: A True Story of False Confession

Wednesday, April 6, 2016 | 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM | Thorne Auditorium

Making a Murderer comes to Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. Join us as Brendan Dassey's attorneys, Steven Drizin (JD '86) and Laura Nirider (JD '08), discuss Brendan's case, police interrogations, and false confessions. Using video excerpts from sixteen-year-old Brendan Dassey’s interrogation, Drizin and Nirider will explain how the powerful process of psychological interrogation can cause teenagers like Brendan to falsely confess. A panel of distinguished guests will also discuss issues raised by Brendan's case, including the legality of certain interrogation techniques, the power of pre-trial publicity, and the impact of Making a Murderer on the justice system writ large.
