Luncheon Brings Scholarship Recipients and Donors Together

March 13, 2017

Nearly 130 scholarship donors, recipients, and alumni attended the Inaugural Scholarship Donor Appreciation Luncheon at the Law School on March 2. The event celebrated donors and students alike and gave scholarship recipients the opportunity to meet and thank their benefactors.

Over lunch, attendees heard a few remarks from Dean Daniel B. Rodriguez, David Savner (BA ’65, JD ’68) and Steven Kobby Lartey (JD ’18). Savner, who endowed the David and Libby Savner Scholarship fund, shared his personal motivation for supporting scholarships. Grateful to receive a scholarship in law school, he made a personal goal to help future generations of law students as someone had done for him.

Lartey, recipient of the Ednyfed H. Williams Memorial Scholarship, spoke on behalf of his fellow scholarship recipients. “I am truly humbled and honored to stand here as the representative of my friends and colleagues to thank those of you in this room and beyond for your kindness, generosity and the confidence you have reposed in us to carry on in this our noble profession we call the law,” Lartey said. “I know I cannot possibly convey all the gratitude those of us who have received named scholarships feel, and so I want to start by simply saying: thank you. Thank you for giving and thank you for having confidence in our modest selves.”
