Copyright Law This course presents both the substantive law of copyrights and its role within the larger framework of intellectual property law. Topics to be covered include copyrightability requirements; the subject matter that can, and cannot, be protected; the rights that copyright law gives to authors, including the rules governing initial authorship and the transfer of rights; statutory privileges, such as that of fair use, that are designed to protect the public interest in access to creative works; and the pre-emption of state laws. Throughout the course, we will grapple with the challenge that new copying technologies pose to traditional copyright doctrines.
Evaluation: Final Examination. Class participation will be considered in determining the final grade
