Law and Social Policy

This concentration focuses on law as it consciously shapes society, as distinguished from its role in adjudicating disputes and making arrangements between private parties. This approach to the study of law is informed by the knowledge and techniques of the social sciences.

Because of its broad scope, this concentration offers two "tracks" policy analysis and public interest. The two-track approach reflects the fact that students taking this concentration likely have varied interests and career motivations. Offering two tracks helps guide these students in focusing their studies. Students may fulfill the requirements for one or both of these tracks, which will be indicated accordingly on their transcript.

To complete the requirements for either track of this concentration, students must:

  1. complete the required courses
  2. earn a specified number of credits in the defined curricular tracks
  3. satisfy the research writing requirement
