IP Insurance

This course will explore topics related to insurance products for intellectual property. Insurance protection for intellectual property (including coverage for patents, trademarks, and trade secrets) has evolved significantly over the last few years, and today operating companies, both large and small, and startups are increasingly looking to insurance products to manage IP-related risk. This course provides an overview of IP-related insurance products available in the market today and cover basic concepts of risk transfer and actuarial analysis that a buyer of IP-related insurance products should be familiar with. Specific IP insurance products to be covered include: abatement insurance, defense cost insurance, and settlement cost insurance. This course uses a mix of presentations, case studies, and in-class discussion to explore these topics.
