Criminal Justice in Cook County: An Empirical Examination

This course will offer the students a close look at the Cook County criminal justice system in action and the opportunity for hands-on investigation into the Cook County criminal justice system. Part of a large-scale examination of how Cook County polices, jails, and adjudicates criminal offenses, the course will discuss contemporary and classic works on urban criminal justice processing, feature extensive interaction with Cook County criminal justice leaders and policymakers, and engage students in collecting data through court observations, interviews with lawyers and other participants in the system.
