Reproductive Justice Seminar

This course will explore the state’s regulation of reproduction from origins through today. Centering the ways that reproductive rights, access, and choices are forged at the intersections of race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, age, and immigration status, we will consider how overlapping bodies of law constrain the decision to have, and to avoid having, children. Topics may include contraception, abortion, sterilization, assisted reproductive technology, pregnancy discrimination, criminalization of pregnancy outcomes, maternal mortality and health care, reproductive surveillance, child removal, childcare, and reproductive controls in carceral or other detention settings.
