Law Scholars Program

This two-semester workshop is designed for students interested in developing into a publishable article either new research or an existing paper in need of substantial revision. In the Fall Semester the seminar will meet over the last two-thirds of the term. It will be run as a faculty mini-workshop for scholars (mostly younger professors and fellows in the Chicago area) to present their work, allowing the class to comment on their scholarship and learn about presentation skills. In preparation for each meeting, students will submit two-page critiques of the author's paper. In the Spring Semester, the class will function as a workshop for students in the seminar, enabling them to present their research papers. The professors will work with each student to get his or her piece into publishable shape. JD/PhD students, LLM students, and members of Northwestern's Law Scholars Program are particularly encouraged to enroll, especially if they are interested in teaching or in becoming active participants in a scholarly workshop, since they will have extensive opportunities to speak and to hone their skills in critiquing legal argument. This course is a year-long commitment; students enroll in 1 credit in the Fall and 2 credits in the Spring.
