Executive LLM Chicago

Executive LLM Chicago

Northwestern Pritzker School of Law was the first law school to introduce an accelerated LLM degree for experienced lawyers. Since its inception in 2001, our executive LLM programs have proudly graduated over 900 lawyers from over 50 countries. These high-achieving individuals have accelerated their careers in law firms, corporations, the judiciary, government and non-profits around the world.

Lawyers who practice internationally must understand U.S. laws and principles in order to navigate the complex global landscape.

The Northwestern Law Executive LLM Chicago (ELLMC) enables international law graduates to earn an LLM from a top law school in a single summer, from May through August. In courses taught by our world-class faculty, students advance their understanding of U.S. legal concepts and gain a strong foundation in U.S. business law. The well-designed curriculum qualifies students to sit for the California Bar Exam.*

Professor MarkellBruce Markell

"Every day, advances in communication and technology make the commercial world smaller. To serve their clients, lawyers must be aware and expert not only in their own country’s commercial laws, but also the laws of the countries in which their clients do business. Such global understanding benefits not only clients, but also a general understanding of the common needs of all people."

Professor CohnLynn Cohn
Director, Center on Negotiation and Mediation

"In our international LLM classrooms, the opportunity for peer learning is tremendous. These students come with expertise in a variety of practice areas and provide a safe setting for developing cross-cultural competence. I also envy these students for the time that they have to focus on their development and experience a life altering chance to travel with colleagues who often become dear friends."

Courses:  Negotiation Workshop, Advanced Negotiation Workshop, Mediation Practicum

Professor ReedSteve Reed
Clinical Professor of Law; Assistant Director, Donald Pritzker Entrepreneurship Law Center

"It is rare in this day and age for any lawyer to work only in their own country. Almost every large deal has some international component, and for lawyers to be effective for their clients, they need to understand the US legal system and American law and practice."
