Diane Marie Amann
received the degree of Doctor honoris causa in law on the occasion of the 371st birthday of Universiteit Utrecht, the Netherlands. In his nominating speech at the ceremony, Professor J.A.E. Vervaele made particular note of Professor Amann's scholarship on post-September 11 executive detention and on the use of external norms in constitutional decisionmaking. The only other American woman to have been so honored by the Utrecht law faculty was Eleanor Roosevelt, in 1948, as she was helping to draft the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. (6.21.07)
