• Volunteers Needed for Midwest Immigrant and Human Rights Center

My name is Bing Luo. I work for Midwest Immigrant and Human Rights Center, a program of Heartland Alliance. We provide direct legal services to and advocate for low-income and impoverished immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. We also monitor and respond to human rights conditions and abuse at local, regional, national and international level and influence public policy and effect legislative and regulatory change.

Currently we are looking for quality Korean-speaking interpreters to assist intake and legal screening for immigration relief with Korean-speaking clients who are potential victims of crime. In terms of time commitment, we estimate it will be 10 hrs within the next month. We can discuss a flexible schedule if you will have difficulties committing 10 hours.

The Midwest Immigration and Human Rights Center (MIHRC) is also in need of Korean-speakers who can volunteer to assist in conducting intake interviews for women who are victims of human trafficking. These women were brought illegally into the United States, forced into sexual labor, and now face deportation. Through intake, the attorneys at MIHRC can determine whether these women qualify for a T visa, which would allow them to remain legally in the U.S. and also help to bring the traffickers to justice.

Please email me or call me if you are interested in volunteering and attending the training. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you.
