Welcome to NU A.T.L.A Website

The Northwestern Student Chapter of ATLA was founded by four friends in the Spring of 2003 to create a forum for future litigators to network, and to shed light to issues affecting trial lawyers. In a school whose student body gravitates to large corporate and defense firms upon graduation, our goal with this group was to present a previously unrepresented perspective of the legal system: that of the plaintiff’s attorney who represents the man rather than the machine.

With some of the best trial lawyers in the country only blocks away, we have had great success recruiting speakers to discuss courtroom practice. In our first two semesters as a student group at Northwestern, over 100 students have joined our association, and even more have come to hear our speakers, who have included Senator Dick Durbin, and prominent trial lawyers Bob Clifford and Tom Demetrio.

On the national level, ATLA is the world largest trial bar with 60,000 members, and isdedicated to safeguarding victims right by protecting the right to trial by jury. In addition to actively lobbying Congress, ATLA publishes TRIAL Magazine and the ATLA Advocate, provides continuing education courses throughout the country, and offers scholarships and trial advocacy competitions for law student.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact me personally, or contact any of our officers.

Cordially,

Chris Montroy
President, NwU ATLA
