LLM and LLM/K Students

The Career Strategy Center sponsors a number of programs throughout the year for LLM students, including resume and cover letter workshops, networking programs, mock interviews, and Lexis and Westlaw career database training.

The Career Strategy Center and the dedicated LLM Career Manager will be available to assist you in developing your individual job search strategy, reviewing your resume and cover letters, and conducting mock interviews. However, it is necessary for all students to work diligently on their own job search, making contacts with employers, pursuing opportunities and following up on all possibilities.

Below are some specialized resources to help you get started. In addition, LLM students may take advantage of Northwestern Law's Job Postings Database (netid and password required).

Federal Employment Policy for Non-U.S. Citizens
As a general rule, non-U.S. citizens cannot be compensated by the federal government for positions located in the continental United States, though there are limited exceptions for citizens of U.S. defense-treaty allies. Jeff Barr, in the Office of General Counsel, Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, is willing to speak to law students who are non-citizens to discuss their eligibility for compensated clerkships. He can be reached at (202) 502-1100. For more information, visit the federal Office of Personnel Management's guide for non-U.S. citizens.
