Transition to Practice

Northwestern Law offers a Transition to Practice Program in order to assist students whose job searches have been extended past graduation. The Transition to Practice Program provides recent graduates with modest stipends to work part-time in public and private sector jobs over a limited period of time. Through these interim jobs, participants continue to gain relevant work experience and to make important contacts aimed at facilitating their pursuit of full-time, permanent employment.

While not its primary intent, the program has led to full-time offers for some students with their Transition to Practice employers. Other graduates have reported that the experiences were instrumental in helping them secure permanent employment with another organization.

Some previous Transition to Practice employers have included the Washington, DC Attorney’s Office, Legal Aid Society of Harlem, San Francisco Public Defender, City of Naperville, Rice & Rice, Ladas & Parry, and the Oakland Raiders.
