What are RSS feeds?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds sort and provide new web content from user chosen web sites, providing links and short descriptions. Popular news sources and blogs typically have RSS feeds, such as Wired News, Reuters, and ABC News. For more general information about RSS feeds, see RSS For Non-Techie Librarians or Wikipedia.

Why is RSS useful?
RSS saves time. Instead of remembering to visit a favorite web site, the news or information you want comes directly to your computer browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer) or to your e-mail client (Outlook, Mac Mail).

How can you start receiving RSS feeds?
Recent and current web browsers have built-in RSS aggregator/feed reader programs and iGoogle has several RSS widgets. RSS aggregator software programs can also be downloaded. Wikipedia has a comprehensive list of these programs. When you are viewing a web site that has an RSS feed, clicking on the icon will bring you to a page where you can choose how and when you want new information delivered. It will then add this information to your RSS program.
