Project Finance This ten week course explores the legal aspects of major projects and project finance through actual experiences of financial institutions and private equity investors. Major projects include airports, pipelines, tollways and other infrastructure projects and will be analyzed with particular emphasis on emerging markets. Major projects often involve participation with international financial institutions such as OPIC, EBRD, and IFC, as well as consortia of international banks and investment banks, in cooperation with local governments. The course will also explore public debt, and private and public equity investments. The course will also analyze the development and operation of a major project using the standard model of build, operate and transfer (BOT).
Schedule: Ten week, quarter schedule
Evaluation: Final Examination. Attendance will count for 10%, class participation, 20% and final examination, 70%
Examination: The final examination will be a student team presentation on an actual project finance transaction, including a written bid and oral presentation, to a guest panel. The purpose of the exercise is to replicate the experience of winning a competitive bid for a transaction. This presentation will occur on or before the last class meeting.
