Corporate Finance This course will introduce students to the basic elements of corporate finance. The main topics covered are a) financial statement analysis and firm performance measurement, b) the theory and practice of capital structure decisions, c) estimating a firm's cost of capital, and d) basic company valuation techniques. No prior knowledge of finance or accounting is assumed, but a willingness to analyze numerical data is important. Roughly half of the course will be in lecture format, and the other half will be analyzing business case studies. The course is not a standard law school course, in that we will not be reading much case law, but we will emphasize applications in law that use these tools.
Because of the significant overlap with the MBA curriculum, this class is not appropriate for students in the JD-MBA program.
