39th ANNUAL JULIUS H. MINER MOOT COURT PRELIMINARY ROUNDS BEGIN FEBRUARY 5, 2002
Preliminary rounds for the Julius Miner Moot Court Competition begin February 5, 2002. The competition is held in honor of Judge Miner, who received an LLM degree from Northwestern in 1945. The quarter finals will be held on February 21, and the final round will be held on March 8. Judging the final round are the Honorable Joel Martin Flaum, Chief Judge for the 7 th Circuit; the Honorable Mary M. Schroeder, Chief Judge for the 9th Circuit; and the Honorable David S. Tatel of the D.C. Circuit. Click here for more information.
HONORABLE CHARLES T. WELLS, SUPREME COURT OF FLORIDA, TO DELIVER POPE & JOHN LECTURE
The Honorable Charles T. Wells, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Florida, will deliver the 2002 Pope & John Lecture Series on Professionalism at 4 p.m. on February 14, at the Law School. Alumni and friends are welcome. Justice Wells entered the national spotlight during the historic courtroom battle over the Florida balloting system when he issued a dissent to the Florida Court's majority decision to order a county-by-county recount in the 2000 Presidential Election. The U.S. Supreme Court later agreed with Justice Wells and overturned the Florida Court's decision. Click here for more information.
HARVARD PROFESSOR LANI GUINIER TO DELIVER BLACK HISTORY MONTH KEYNOTE ADDRESS
Lani Guinier, professor of law at Harvard University, will deliver the Black History Month keynote address at noon on February 18 in Lincoln Hall. Professor Guinier came to public attention in 1993 when President Clinton nominated her to be the first black woman to head the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice and then withdrew her name without a confirmation hearing. LAW ALUMNI ASSOCIATION INTRODUCES "MEET THE ALUMNI WEEK"
The Law Alumni Association and the Center for Career Strategy and Advancement are proud to present "Meet the Alumni Week", February 25-28, 2002. Designed to facilitate interaction among current students and alumni, programs will include a series of panel discussions for students. The week will culminate in a networking "Bar Review" for young alumni and students at the Rock Bottom Brewery in Chicago. Please see Bar Review details below.
