at 6th Annual Public Service Dinner

Alan Mills JD ’81, Thomas Morsch JD ’55, and Anton Valukas JD ’68 will receive recognition for their commitment to public interest work at the 6th Annual Student Funded Public Interest Fellowship (SFPIF) Public Service Benefit Dinner. Alumni Career Webinar
Facing critical career decisions while dealing with the impact of the current economy? The Center for Career Strategy and the Office of Alumni Relations will host an alumni-oriented career webinar on Thursday, April 16 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Law School during which they will present a snapshot of the legal job market as well as job search and coping strategies for the Northwestern Law alumni community. Registration information and more details to follow.

The Center for Career Strategy would also like to remind all alumni that their services, including personalized counseling, resume and cover letter evaluation and job search strategies, are available to Northwestern Law graduates for life. CFJC, CIHR and MacArthur Center Sponsor Movie, Panel Discussion
The Children and Family Justice Center, Center for International Human Rights, and the MacArthur Justice Center present Breaking the Silence: Torture Survivors Speak Out on March 12 from 5 to 7:45 p.m. in Thorne Auditorium. Come watch the film, which features interviews of torture survivors from Africa, the Philippines, South America, and the Middle East. It also examines the political issues and current U.S. legislation regarding the use of torture. Following the film, there will be a short panel discussion. The event is free and open to the public. Faculty Earn Honors, Release New Book
Two Northwestern Law professors were recently honored with prestigious awards and a third recently published a new book.

John Hagan was awarded the Stockholm Prize in Criminology for his work on genocide in Darfur and the Balkans. The award recognizes Hagan’s pioneering application of advanced crime measurement techniques to the study of genocide.

David Ruder will receive a lifetime achievement award at the 16th annual Mutual Fund Industry Awards in New York City on March 19. The award honors the tremendous amount of time, energy, and intelligence Ruder has devoted to improving the fund industry.

Marshall Shapo recently released the book Experimenting with the Consumer: The Mass Testing of Risky Products on the American Public, in which he examines the nature of mass market experimentation and provides consumers with steps for protecting themselves against unacceptable levels of risk.
