Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens JD '47 recently visited the Law School on May 12 for an open moderated discussion with the Law School community and to deliver the commencement address for the graduating class of 2011. During his visit, the Northwestern Law Review also hosted a day-long symposium dedicated to the legacy of Justice Stevens.
Justice John Paul Stevens JD '47 addressed the class of 2011 as the keynote alumni speaker at the 151st Law School graduation convocation on Friday, May 13, at the Chicago Theater. Returning his alma mater more than sixty years later to speak to new graduates, Justice Stevens encouraged them to take their careers one step at a time, hold fast to integrity and to include public service in their legal practice.
The class of 2011 achieved historic success in this year's graduating class gift campaign! In our first-ever outright gift drive, 135 graduates across all programs made gifts to supplement important initiatives. This will positively impact unrestricted support through the Law School Fund, portraits of diverse alumni, the Public Service Fellowship Program, the Bluhm Legal Clinic, programming, and scholarships. As the newest members of the Northwestern Law alumni community, we sincerely thank the class of 2011 for their generosity and support.
Are you interested in helping current Northwestern Law students? The Alumni Advisory Program and the Alumni Summer Coaching Program are two great ways to assist current Northwestern Law students. The Alumni Advisory Program is an informational/networking tool for students seeking guidance as they explore career options. Students can contact volunteer advisors via e-mail exchanges or informational interviews and can ask questions about particular practice areas, discuss market trends, or obtain valuable career advice. The Alumni Summer Coaching Program pairs current Northwestern Law students with alumni participants located in the same city for a mock interview during summer 2011. The program is also an opportunity for employers to boost their visibility with students prior to the fall recruiting season. Anyone interested in participating in either program should contact Puja Singh Patel.
In the spirit of making connections in 2011, on June 22, the Northwestern Law Alumni Association will host a summer Alumni Happy Hour and Networking event in New York City for alumni and current students spending their summer in the city!
