Judicial Education Program

Northwestern University School of Law is the proud sponsor of the Judicial Education Program (JEP) which presents carefully targeted educational programs for state and federal judges.

A well-informed and well-educated judiciary is essential to a sound civil justice system. Judges routinely hear cases involving complex issues of economics, finance, accounting, statistics, and science. Yet many judges lack the basic knowledge in these disciplines necessary to distinguish between valid and invalid arguments. This educational void means that litigants do not meet on a level playing field and this threatens the fundamental principles of a fair and just society.

To address this problem, the Northwestern Law JEP, offers a stimulating array of specialized programs in these areas. The JEP provides timely, specialized programs on economics, finance, accounting, and scientific method as well as substantive legal issues.

With more than 1400 state and federal judges as alumni since 2008, the JEP at Northwestern is unmatched in its delivery of quality judicial programming.

Economics Institutes for Judges

The Economics Institutes for Judges address the fundamental issues often at the heart of legal disputes. Upon completion of the program, judges have a solid grounding in economics, statistics, and scientific method. Analysis of numerous court cases emphasizes the practical relevance of these disciplines. Outstanding professors from Northwestern and other major universities teach the classes.

Advanced Law and Economics Institutes

By concentrating on a specific field, the Advanced Institutes allow judges to explore a timely and relevant topic while increasing the depth of their analysis.
