Inter-American Commission on Human Rights
On March 7, 2008, six students from the Human Rights Advocacy clinic accompanied Associate Clinical Professor Sandra Babcock to a hearing at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in Washington, D.C. On behalf of three Mexican nationals sentenced to death in Texas, the clinic filed petitions arguing that the United States had violated several provisions of the American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man in each case. Lawyers from the Department of State argued on behalf of the U.S. Government. Clinic students were instrumental in drafting the petitions and preparing for the hearing. The commission may issue a final report as early as July 2008.
