Welcome to the website for the Third Annual Symposium of the Northwestern Journal of Technology & Intellectual Property. The Symposium will be hosted at the Northwestern University School of Law on April 18th, 2008. Once again, registration for the Symposium is free and available online. This year's Symposium features James W. Dabney as the keynote speaker, along with three panels of expert speakers discussing various topics on the future of intellectual property.
Skilled practitioners will discuss the issues and challenges posed by emerging technologies, including new IP litigation strategies, and difficulties in trying complex patent cases to juries.
Having recently argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in KSR v. Teleflex on behalf of KSR, James W. Dabney of Fried, Frank, Harris Shriver & Jacobson LLP will talk about the future of intellectual property. Lunch will be provided for those who pre-register. Following his talk, Mr. Dabney will chat with students about his experiences arguing KSR before the Supreme Court.
Academics and practitioners will discuss the impact of recent, signficant Supreme Court and Federal Circuit cases that appear to cut back on the rights of IP owners, including eBay, Merck v. Integra, In re Seagate, MedImmune, Illinois Tool Works, and KSR.
Academics and practitioners will discuss the phenomenom of social networking, including MySpace, YouTube, and Second Life, and the various IP issues posed by their emergence and widespread use.
