About the Northwestern Law Review Colloquy

The Colloquy operates as the online arm of the Northwestern University Law Review. In operation since 2006, the Colloquy is one of the longest-running online scholarly publications operated by a major law review. We feature short, lightly footnoted pieces on timely and relevant legal issues. Content ranges from short expositions of new ideas, analysis of emerging legal topics, ongoing debates or series regarding legal issue or pending Supreme Court cases, and short responses to already-published scholarship. While the shorter length and light footnoting policy allows scholars to publish their thoughts within weeks of an emerging legal development, our rigorous editorial process ensures we maintain the quality of scholarship expected of a print law review.

For those who wish to publish pieces that strike a balance between the depth and rigor of a full-length law review article and the speed and brevity of an op-ed, the Colloquy publishes short essays, generally between 3,000 and 5,000 words, inclusive of footnotes. These essays will be published on the Colloquy website and are carried on Westlaw and LexisNexis; in addition, two Colloquy pieces are selected for publication in each of the print Law Review’s four annual volumes.
