Supreme Court Clinic

Since 2006, Sidley’s Appellate Practice Group has sponsored a United States Supreme Court Clinic at Northwestern Law School, which provides law students the opportunity to act as Supreme Court litigators, drafting petitions for writs of certiorari and briefs on the merits for parties and amici. Sidley partners Carter Phillips and Jeffrey Green serve as the Clinic’s directors and are joined by Professor Sarah Schrup of Northwestern. Other attorneys from the Firm participate as faculty as well, including Virginia Seitz from the Washington, D.C. office as well as Connie Trela and Rob Hochman from the Chicago office. Other attorneys from both offices bring a unique combination of experience and expertise to the teaching effort, including numerous former Supreme Court clerks. Since its founding three years ago, the Clinic has enjoyed victories in its own cases and has played a role in assisting counsel in many others. The Clinic has also given students the opportunity to meet several Supreme Court justices, including Justices Thomas and Kennedy and Chief Justice Roberts and has hosted several prominent speakers, including, Solicitor General Paul Clement, Deputy Solicitor General Michael Dreeben, ABC Legal Correspondent Jan Crawford Greenburg and Legal Times Correspondent Tony Mauro.
Please feel free to contact Jeff Green at jgreen@sidley.com or Sarah Schrup at s-schrup@law.northwestern.edu if you would like more information about the Clinic.
