Who We Are

Laurie Mikva, Director, Tenant Advocacy Clinic

Laurie Mikva is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Law and the Director of the Tenant Advocacy Clinic. She supervises second and third year law students in all aspects of civil litigation. Partnering with organizations such as Legal Aid Chicago and Cabrini Green Legal Aid, the Tenant Advocacy Clinic primarily represents tenants in eviction cases in the Cook County Circuit Court.

Prior to joining the Clinical Faculty, Mikva was a staff attorney at Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation in Champaign, Illinois. In 2009, she was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve, and continues to serve on the Legal Services Corporation Board of Directors. She received her J.D. from New York University College of Law. Upon graduation, Mikva clerked for Judge Luther Swygert on the Unites States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Her areas of expertise include Eviction Defense, Civil Litigation and Poverty Law.
