Case Details

Mexican citizen Ricardo Aldape Guerra was only twenty years old and had only been in the United States for two months when he was arrested for the murder of Houston police officer James Harris. He spent fifteen years on Texas death row awaiting execution before he was exonerated, despite mountains of evidence clearing him of the crime. He was freed thanks to help from the Mexican consulate and financial assistance from the Government of Mexico, a right that most foreign nationals are unaware of and do not receive.
