  • LegalTrac Available from anywhere to members of the Northwestern Law community - Citations with abstracts, and some full-text articles, from more than 800 legal publications. Focus is on journals published in U.S. law schools, but also covered are major journals from other English-speaking countries. Also covers law-related articles from more than 1,000 additional business and general interest periodicals. Available as Legal Resource Index in LexisNexis (LGLIND) and Westlaw (LRI) Available in print as Current Law Index (R,REF K 33 .C87).
  • Index to Legal Periodicals & Books Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Indexes articles from over 800 legal journals (beginning in 1981), and from major law books published since 1993. "Legal Periodicals Retro" component allows for searching for articles dating back to 1908, and can be searched by itself or simultaneously with the Index to Legal Periodicals & Books covering 1981 to present. Focus is on publications from the United States. Does not contain any articles in full text. Current file also available on Westlaw (ILP). Also available in print (R, REF K 33 .I5342).
  • Current Index to Legal Periodicals (CILP) Available from anywhere to members of the Northwestern Law community - A weekly current awareness service, arranged by broad subject categories. Includes links to full text of articles in Lexis and Westlaw. Also available in Westlaw (CILP).
  • Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - An index of selected legal periodicals, most of which are published outside of the United States. Coverage includes journals, essay collections, festschrifts, and congress reports beginning with 1985. Indexes individual contributions to festschrifts and other collections. Subjects include international law, comparative law, and foreign (non-Anglo-American) law. However, some articles on U.S. law are included. The print edition covers 1960 to date (I,REF K 33 .I529).

  • HeinOnline Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Searchable, digitized, PDF full-text backfile of more than 1,200 law and law-related periodicals. The most current volume of a journal is not usually included.
  • JSTOR Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Searchable, digitized, PDF full-text backfile of core scholarly journals in the humanities, social sciences, and the sciences. A number of major law journals are included. Since JSTOR is intended to be an archive, it does not include the current issues of journals nor the most recent four or five years.
  • Journal Finder - Search or browse for thousands of law and law-related journals which are available full-text. Most useful when you already have a citation in hand, and need to find the journal electronically.

Academic Search Elite Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Multi-disciplinary coverage of journal literature, including biological sciences, economics, communications, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts and literature, medical sciences and women's studies. Provides citations and abstracts for nearly 2900 scholarly journals (1666 peer-reviewed), as well as over 1250 full-text titles.

Expanded Academic ASAP (EXAC) Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Citations, abstracts and selected full-text articles in more than one thousand periodicals covering the social sciences, the humanities, the sciences, and current affairs.

FirstSearch Available from anywhere to members of the Northwestern Law community - A collection of databases, each of which covers a particular subject area or type of publication, such as articles, papers, or proceedings. To search more than one database simultaneously, select any database, such as ArticleFirst, click on the "databases" tab, and select the databases you would like to search.

Google Scholar - "Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations." While Google Scholar can be a good starting point, the many specialized indexes available through Northwestern University may be more useful for in-depth research.

Humanities Abstracts Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Bibliographic citations from more than 450 periodicals in topics such as archaeology, art, classics, film, folklore, journalism, linguistics, music, the performing arts, philosophy, religion, world history, and world literature. Records added since 1994 have abstracts, and many citations have links to the full text of the article.

*JSTOR Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Searchable, digitized, full-text backfile of core scholarly journals in the humanities, social sciences, and the sciences. Since JSTOR is intended to be an archive, it does not include the current issues of journals nor the most recent four or five years.

*Legal and Law-Related Journals on the Web - The Pritzker Legal Research Center's list of journals to which it has full-text online access. Many of the journals on the list are not strictly legal in focus.

PAIS International Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community (1972-present) and PAIS International Archive  Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community (1937-1976) - An index to the literature on public policy, social policy, and the social sciences. Includes citations to books, documents, pamphlets, reports of public and private agencies, and periodical articles published throughout the world. Indexed materials are in the following languages: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Social Science Research Network Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - A service providing scholarly research papers, working papers, and journals in numerous social science disciplines, including law, economics, and financial economics.

Social Sciences Abstracts Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community- Bibliographic citations and abstracts to articles from more than 550 international, English-language periodicals in the social sciences, including sociology, anthropology, geography, economics, political science, and law. Some records include links to the full-text of the article.

Web of Science Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Web of Science contains three individual databases, which may be searched separately or simultaneously: Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Between these databases, virtually all areas of scholarship are covered. Users may search by topic, author, source title, or by cited reference: authors and titles from an article's bibliography. Searches may also lead to related records: articles with citations in common.

Business Source Premier Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - "[P]rovides nearly 3,300 full-text scholarly publications, including more than 1,000 peer-reviewed journals. This database offers information in nearly every area of business including management, economics, finance, accounting, international business, and more."

Management Research Network Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - A searchable database of published papers with abstracts and full bibliographic descriptions relating to research in various area of management research network. Site includes professional announcements and job listings.

Economist Historical Archive (1843-2003) Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Fully searchable complete facsimile edition of The Economist, the weekly paper which is essential reading for anyone engaged in politics, current affairs and all aspects of business and trade worldwide.

EconLitAvailable from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - A comprehensive, indexed bibliography with selected abstracts of the world's economic literature, produced by the American Economic Association. It covers more than 400 economics journals, as well as citations from edited collections, dissertations and working papers licensed from the Cambridge University Press Abstracts of Working Papers in Economics.

Financial Economics Network Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - A searchable database of published papers with abstracts and full bibliographic descriptions relating to research in various area of finance and economics.

John M. Olin Center for Law, Economics and Business Discussion Papers - From Harvard University; some of the papers are not strictly legal in focus. Full-text is available for all papers issued in 1999 and 2000; most of the papers issued in 1997 and 1998 are also available in full-text. The Center plans to add the full texts of more papers in the future.

History

America: History and LifeAvailable from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Citations and abstracts from more than 2,100 journals published in approximately 40 languages covering the history of the United States and Canada. Of these journals, about 900 are published in the U.S. and Canada, including journals of state and local historical societies, and journals in the social sciences and related fields of knowledge. Also included are citations and abstracts of dissertations, as well as reviews cited from a subgroup of 140 journals.

Philosophy

Philosopher's IndexAvailable from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Citations and abstracts to articles from books and over 480 journals dealing with philosophy and related interdisciplinary fields. International in scope, Philosopher's Index covers literature from 38 countries in seven languages.

Political Science

Major journals in political science, public law, international public law, and international relations are covered.

Worldwide Political Science Abstracts Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Citations with abstracts from more than 1100 journals in political science and related disciplines. Coverage is international is scope.

Psychology

PsychInfoAvailable from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Citations and abstracts to articles in the professional and academic literature in psychology and related disciplines. This broad range of fields includes medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology, and linguistics, among others. Updated monthly, its worldwide coverage contains references and abstracts to over 1,300 journals in more than 25 languages, and to book chapters and books in the English language (beginning in 1987).

Sociology

Gender Studies Database Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Combines Women's Studies International, Men's Studies and Sexual Diversity Studies databases with relevant contributions from the Child Development & Adolescent Studies as well as Family & Society Studies Worldwide databases. GSD covers the spectrum of gender engaged scholarship inside and outside academia.

Sociological Abstracts Available from anywhere to all members of the Northwestern University community - Citations and abstracts of articles from approximately 2500 journals, as well as conference papers, dissertations, book reviews and selected sociology books. The database covers sociology and sociological topics in fields such as anthropology, economics, education, medicine, community development, philosophy, demography, political science and social psychology.
