State and Local Government Resources

  • Index to Current Urban Documents Must be used while on the NU campus : This resource provides access to municipal documents from cities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
  • Municipal Codes: This site, from the Seattle Public Library, provides "links to city and county codes available for unrestricted searching." Codes are from over 75 municipalities in 31 states and the District of Columbia.
  • Online Codes: This site, from Municipal Code Corporation, provides the codes of more than 1100 jurisdictions and municipalities from 42 different states.
  • State and Local Governments: This site, by the Library of Congress, provides links to state government web sites for all 50 states.
  • State Legal Sources on the Web: This web site, provided by the University of Michigan Government Documents Department, provides links to state and territorial web sites that contain bills, session laws, state codes, constitutions, new regulations, and executive orders, codified regulations, attorney general opinions, state courts, and major newspapers.
  • State Legislative Bill Tracking and Update Services: This site, by the National Conference of State Legislatures, provides links to the state legislative web sites that offer bill tracking and update services.
  • State Legislatures, State Laws and State Regulations: This site, from the Law Librarians' Society of Washington, D.C., provides hypertext links to each state's legislature, state statutory code, and state administrative or regulatory code. These materials are increasingly becoming available on state government web sites. This site also provides telephone numbers for important contact personnel in the legislature, legislative research bureau, and the state's law library.
