Interlibrary Loan

Directions

The library introduced a new Interlibrary Loan System on July 12, 2010.

  • First time users of the new system must create an account. You will be directed to login with your Northwestern netID.
  • Logon to your ILL account to make requests, check the status of your requests, or renew ILL materials.
  • Before submitting a request, check NUcat to see if the item is available in a Northwestern Library.
  • Provide as much information about the requested material as possible and verify your citation in WorldCAT (books and dissertations) or an article database such as LegalTrac, LexisNexis,or Westlaw.
  • Promptly retrieve delivered material, as articles and books will only be accessible 2 weeks after being delivered.
  • Journal members should read through source and cite guidelines before placing requests.
  • Requests made before July 12th may still be accessible here.

Warning Concerning Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
