COMPENSATING THE WRONGFULLY CONVICTED
Those who have served time in prison for crimes they did not commit deserve to be compensated for their ordeal. By using both civil rights litigation and state laws that provide for compensation awards in such cases, the Roderick MacArthur Justice Center (the Justice Center) works to win compensation for innocents who have served time in prison. MJC has represented 2 of the 13 men exonerated from the Illinois death row in clemency and court of claims proceedings that resulted in compensation awards for their time unjustly spent in Illinois prisons. In appropriate cases, the Justice Center also pursues civil rights litigation against those who wrongfully prosecute the innocent.
