Welcome back! Whether you spent the last two weeks traveling on a public service or ITP trip or relaxing and enjoying the beautiful, early summer weather in Chicago, I hope you had an enjoyable spring break and have returned ready to wrap up the last few weeks of the semester. This first week back will be a particularly busy one with the Honorable Alex Kozinski’s visit as the Trienens scholar on Wednesday and Thursday and the festschrift honoring Professor Marty Redish on Friday. We have a number of other exciting events coming up here at the Law School in the next few weeks that you will find listed below. In addition, as the spring semester comes to a close, please keep these important dates in mind:

Trienens Visiting Judicial Scholar, March 28-29
The Honorable Alex Kozinski, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, will visit the Law School as the 2012 Howard J. Trienens Visiting Judicial Scholar. Established in 1989 by partners of Sidley Austin to honor Howard J. Trienens JD ’49, the Trienens Visiting Judicial Scholar program exposes students and faculty to perspectives on the judicial process and contemporary legal issues through lectures and other programs by leading jurists. This year’s Trienens visit will feature a moderated discussion with Judge Kozinski on March 28 at 4 p.m. in Lincoln Hall. This session is open to all faculty, staff, and students. Register…
Meet the Employers Night, March 29
On March 29, the Career Strategy Center will host its annual Meet the Employers Night. This event provides an excellent opportunity for first-year JD and JD-MBA students to meet legal recruiters and alumni from law firms and other employers prior to the fall OCI bidding period.
Festschrift to Honor Professor Marty Redish, March 30
The Law School and Law Review will honor Professor Martin H. Redish on March 30 with a festschrift in celebration of his 40th year on our faculty and in recognition of his wide-ranging contributions to legal scholarship. The symposium will be held at the Law School from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The day’s events will feature three academic panels, which will examine Professor Redish’s contributions to civil procedure, federal jurisdiction, and constitutional law.
SFPIF Ninth Annual Public Service Benefit Dinner, April 5
The Student Funded Public Interest Fellowship Program (SFPIF) will host its ninth annual Public Service Benefit Dinner on Thursday, April 5, at 6 p.m. in the Law School atrium. The event will recognize six Northwestern Law School alumni for their outstanding contributions in public service: Tom Geraghty JD ’69, Dan Lesser JD ’84, Gabriel Fuentes JD ’93, Jennifer Hrycyna JD ’08, Katherine Shelton JD ’07, and Paul Chadha JD ’02.
Dean Dan Rodriguez Installation and Faculty Chair Ceremony, April 12
The Law School will hold a ceremony to honor faculty members Tom Geraghty, Jonathan Koehler, and John McGinnis who have recently been awarded named professorships. We will combine this chair ceremony with the installation of Daniel B. Rodriguez as our new dean and Harold Washington Professor. Faculty, students, and staff are invited to attend the ceremony, which will take place in Lincoln Hall at 4 p.m. Please RSVP by April 5 if you plan to attend this event.
Spring Law Board Meeting, April 13-14
The Law Board will meet for the second time this year in April. The Board, which comprises graduates and friends of the Law School who are distinguished members of the bar, the business world, and the government and not-for-profit sectors, advises the faculty and administration on the future course of the Law School.
Admitted Students Weekend, April 13-14
The Law School will welcome more than 100 admitted students to Admitted Students Weekend, April 13-14. The Student Admissions Committee and our Admissions Office staff have planned a weekend of events to introduce and recruit admitted students to Northwestern Law.
2012 Graduation Week, May 7-11
The graduation committee, chaired by Becca Felsenthal JD ’12 and Minnie Kim JD ’12, is busy working with the Student Services team to plan this year's Graduation Convocation, which will take place Friday, May 11, starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Chicago Theatre. Cap and gown pick-up will take place April 12-15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Lowden. The ceremony’s featured speaker will be Jerry Reinsdorf JD’60, Chairman of the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls. The graduation committee is planning additional graduation week activities to celebrate the Class of 2012. Stay tuned for details.
