Amartya Kumar Sen, Lamont University Professor Emeritus at Harvard University and master of Trinity College at the University of Cambridge, delivered the Julius Rosenthal Foundation Lecture Series, "The Domain of Justice," on September 14-16 at Northwestern University School of Law, 357 East Chicago Ave.

"Ever since the lecture series was established in 1919 in memory of Julius Rosenthal [1827-1905], it has been making notable contributions to legal literature and scholarship," said David E. Van Zandt, dean of the School of Law.

In an October 1996 Wall Street Journal article, Sen was placed on a short list of outstanding academics who were likely to receive the Nobel Prize. "One of the world's most distinguished economists and theorists, he has made major advances in the economics of the developing world and in the nature of equality," said Ronald J. Allen, the John Henry Wigmore Professor of Law at Northwestern.

Sen has written numerous books and articles on a wide range of economic and philosophical subjects. His most influential books include "Collective Choice and Social Welfare," "Hunger and Public Action" and "On Economic Inequality" and "Poverty and Famines: An Essay on Entitlement and Deprivation."
