Of BRICs and Mortar: Technological Drivers in Booming Economies
Welcome!

Welcome to the website for the Second Annual Symposium of the Northwestern Journal of Technology and Intellectual Property. This year's Symposium will be hosted at Northwestern University School of Law on April 13th, 2007. The symposium will feature expert speakers who will discuss the innovations of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) countries and the impact of their expanding intellectual property markets.

The Impact of BRICs

As many economists, lawyers, and scholars have noted, the development of rapidly expanding economies holds much promise and opportunity for the world economy and future geopolitical alignments. In 2003, two economists from Goldman Sachs highlighted this fact in a paper that examined future economic growth in the world's four fastest growing economies – Brazil, Russia, India, and China, which the authors dubbed the BRICs. Ultimately, whether the BRICs continue their phenomenal growth will likely depend on whether they transition from resource-based to technology-based economies.
