PILG provides a forum for students interested in or curious about public interest law to exchange ideas, concerns, and experiences.
It also functions as a medium through which students, faculty, and staff can share their ideas about the curriculum, placement, and life in the public interest community.
The aim of the group is to increase student awareness of public interest law as a viable career option.
PILG activities fall into two categories: information exchange and advocacy.
Information exchange and social activities include a speaker series on various public interest topics, lunch time talks by students on topics of interest and job experiences and volunteer work with agencies.
The group's goal is twofold: to increase awareness and appreciation for public interest careers and to assist those interested in pursuing those careers.
The group's advocacy activities include efforts to increase the number of course offered in public interest law and to expand Northwestern's Public Service Fellowship Program for students entering public interest law after graduation.
