Summer Funding Resources

  • Len Rubinowitz Student Funded Public Interest Fellowship
This grant is given only to Northwestern Law students who have completed the requirements set out by the SFPIF board at the beginning of the school year. (See section on SFPIF in this booklet). Summer grants have ranged in the past from $1000 to $5000, depending on how much money is raised during the school year, and how many students end up needing summer funding. If you think you want to work for a non-profit during the summer, it is advisable to complete SFPIFÕs requirements. Applications are due in the Spring.

  • Public Interest Law Initiative
PILI grants students $4500 for ten-week internships at select Chicago area non-profit organizations. Students apply by completing an application and specifying which organizations for which they would like to work. The non-profit organizations make the decision about which students to interview and hire. Applications are accepted through the Spring.

  • Equal Justice America
Grantees receive $3500 for 300 hours of work. Proof of a job offer is required with the application, along with letters of recommendation. See the website for application materials and deadline information.

  • Equal Justice Works
Fellows receive a $1000 education voucher to work at one of 60 organizations selected by EJW/Ameri-Corp. Students apply directly to the organization for which they want to work, and the organization makes the decision about whom to interview and hire. Applications are accepted through the Spring.

  • Equal Justice America
Grantees receive $3500 for 300 hours of work. Proof of a job offer is required with the application, along with letters of recommendation. See the website for application materials and deadline information.

You must already have a public interest internship to apply (the application requires a letter from your prospective employer.) Applications are due in the Spring.
