Tax Students

Welcome, Incoming Tax Program Students!
Please carefully review the information below to help you prepare for your arrival and Orientation Week. If you have any questions, you may contact the Assistant Director to the Tax Program, Jacqueline  Reise, or Student Affairs.

Before You Arrive

Health Entrance Requirements and Student Health Insurance (pdf) Access Restricted Icon
Northwestern offers through The Chickering Group information on the health and immunization documentation you will need to submit before enrolling at the Law School.

  • Please be sure to review and comply with the immunization requirements as soon as possible.
  • Completed forms should be mailed to:
    Northwestern University Health Service
    Attn: Medical Records Department
    633 Emerson Street
    Evanston, IL 60208-4000

Notebook Purchase Program

  • All incoming students are required to have a computer that meets or exceeds the University's recommended guidelines.
  • To make the purchase of a notebook easier and more affordable, Northwestern Law sponsors a program through which students can purchase at a discount notebooks that meet the school's standards and have the peripherals needed to connect to the Law School and University networks.
  • The IT department will NOT support non-Law School Program computers.

Lottery and Course Registration
We have adopted a new class registration process this year that will be based on a points system.

To learn more about the process, visit the Registrar's site.

When you arrive: Orientation

  • Tax Program Orientation starts with a Welcoming Breakfast at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29th.
  • Tentative Tax Program Orientation Schedule (pdf) - This schedule is tentative and subject to minor revisions. A final schedule will be available during Orientation.
  • Tentative General Orientation Week Schedule (pdf) - This schedule is tentative and subject to minor revisions. A final schedule will be available during Orientation.

Orientation Attire
During Orientation, you will be attending a variety of events that will vary in their degrees of formality. We request that you please dress in business casual attire for the following events:

  • Facebook Photos – Wednesday, August 29th
Facebook, WildCard, and UPass photos will be taken when you check in. The Northwestern Law online Facebook is a valuable and frequently used reference tool for students, faculty, and staff. We also print and share copies of the Facebook with employers during on-campus-interviewing programs. Please remember to dress in business casual attire FROM THE WAIST UP so that your resulting Facebook photo will be appropriate to hand out to employers. The photos will cut off at mid-torso, so you may wear casual pants and shoes, if you wish. Dress mindful that you may be on your feet for several hours and that August in Chicago can be very warm.
  • Orientation Dinner - Wednesday, August 29, or Thursday, August 30
Please wear business casual attire as this is one of your first opportunities to meet your professors in person.
Men should wear slacks, polo or button down shirts, ties are optional.
Women should wear dresses, slacks or skirts, sweaters or blouses. NO jeans, T-shirts, or flip flops.
For all other events, the recommended attire is casual dress.
