Robert Wilson
Robert Wilson, 51, a client of the Center on Wrongful Convictions wrongfully convicted of attempted murder nine years earlier based on an erroneous eyewitness identification, was released from Logan Correctional Center on December 4, 2006.
The release followed publication of an article by Maurice Possley in the November 15, 2006, Chicago Tribune quoting the victim of the attack, June Siler, as saying Chicago police pressured her to testify against Wilson after coercing a confession from him.
On October 20, 2006, U.S. District Court Judge Ruben Castillo ordered a new trial for Wilson, finding that at his original trial Cook County Circuit Court Judge Kenneth Wadas had improperly excluded evidence leaving little doubt that Siler actually had been attacked by a deranged man known to have committed similar crimes in the area in the same time frame.
