Professor David Dana has taken on the new position of Associate Dean for Faculty Research as of Jan. 1, 2004. This new post replaces the Director of Research position.

Professor Dana is a leading scholar in the fields of environmental and property law. Since coming to Northwestern in 1999, he has taught classes on Environmental Law, Property, Professional Responsibility, Advanced Constitutional Law, Law and Public Policy, and the Law & Economics Colloquium. He also serves as a faculty associate and co-director of the Environmental Policy Program at the Northwestern University Institute for Policy Research.

In his new role, Professor Dana will take on additional responsibilities overseeing the faculty research program. He will work with faculty members to enhance their individual research efforts, including securing external grants and internal research funds, and assist them in meeting university and government guidelines for research.

In addition, Professor Dana will manage faculty mentoring and development of the Law School’s research culture, faculty evaluations, the appointments process, and external recognition of faculty research as well as research compliance and commitment reporting.

Professor Dana will be working closely with Professor Mayer Freed and Dean David Van Zandt and will serve on the Law School's Management Committee.

Prior to joining the Law School faculty, Professor Dana was an environmental litigator in both the private and public sectors, working for the firm Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering as well as the U.S. Department of Justice.
