State Constitutional Law

This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to state constitutional law, an understudied area in the curriculum of national law schools. A key point of interest will be the comparison of state constitutional law with federal constitutional law, and understanding and appreciating the role that state constitutions and courts play in shaping American constitutional law. We will explore these topics through reading assignments, in-class discussion and oral argument, and engaging with a number of esteemed guest lecturers, including state constitutional law expert and Sixth Circuit Judge Jeff Sutton.
