Intellectual-Property Strategy and Business Implications for Companies

This course focuses on intellectual property issues faced by companies. Each class covers different aspects of intellectual property and the business implications for the company. The topics will include the establishment of a patent program, intellectual-property licensing, intellectual-property issues during mergers and acquisitions, responding to patent infringement assertions, interactions with standard setting organizations, managing a trademark portfolio and protecting a brand, and managing patent litigation. Where appropriate, the course provides interactive exercises that simulate scenarios commonly faced by companies. Guest speakers are invited to provide the benefit of their perspectives and experiences on the various topics.
