Executive LLM in Tel Aviv

Two of the world's leading law schools, Northwestern Pritzker School of Law in Chicago and Tel Aviv University in Israel, jointly offer a program that awards a dual degree of Master of Law in the fields of Public Law and International Law. The emphasis of the program is on public law in its broad sense, including constitutional law, administrative law, regulation, the international law of human rights and criminal law. Courses are taught by top professors from Tel Aviv and Northwestern law schools, providing students with sophisticated tools to deal with complicated issues of government administration and human rights.

The program is one-year in duration and is designed to meet the needs of distinguished, mid-career lawyers, to broaden their academic horizons and professional skills, which will prepare them for leading positions in law firms, government agencies and human rights organizations. Upon successful completion of this program, participants receive an Executive LLM degree from Northwestern Law and from Tel Aviv University.

Program Structure

The program begins in Tel Aviv and after completing two semesters of coursework at Tel Aviv University, students travel to Northwestern University for four weeks of intensive classroom instruction during the month of July. Successful completion of the program requires 20 hours of course work. The class schedule is planned to allow participants to continue their careers while studying and acquiring an expansive range of functional and managerial skills.

The Executive LLM Tel Aviv program is not intended to qualify foreign lawyers to take the bar examination or to practice law in the United States; in many states, including Illinois, these degrees are not sufficient to take the exam. Because bar exam qualification is subject to individual state regulation and may change year to year, it is up to the applicant and student to assess bar eligibility.

Student Profile

The profile of a typical student is a practicing lawyer with five to ten years of experience in a government office, state attorney office, regulatory agency, the judiciary, central or municipal governmental office or public interest NGO. (Other legal professionals, as well as executives and managers whose work brings them into frequent contact with legal or regulatory situations, would also benefit from participating in the Executive LLM program.) As the Executive LLM program is conducted mostly in English, students are expected to be proficient in spoken and written English.

Faculty

Instructors in the Executive LLM program are drawn from faculty of distinction at both Northwestern Law and Tel Aviv University.

Participants interact with and learn from top faculty members who are leaders in their fields and will challenge participants' practice methods and styles. Students will also learn from their classmates using shared experience and best practices to substantially enrich the classroom experience and increase the participants' personal and professional relations at the international level.
