A Legacy of Excellence

About the Executive LLM Chicago

Northwestern Pritzker School of Law was the first top law school to introduce an accelerated Executive LLM degree for experienced lawyers. Since its inception in 2001, our executive LLM programs have proudly graduated more than 900 lawyers from over 50 countries. These high-achieving individuals have accelerated their careers in law firms, corporations, the judiciary, government, and non-profits around the world.

The Executive LLM Chicago (ELLMC) program enables international law graduates to earn an LLM from a top law school during the spring and summer months. All classes are held at the Northwestern Law campus in downtown Chicago. As the third largest city in the U.S., Chicago is a true metropolis in every sense of the word. Northwestern Law’s proximity to courts, commerce, transportation, and world-class venues gives students the opportunity to immerse themselves in one of the most vibrant legal and business communities in the world.

Each course is carefully designed and taught by our world-class faculty, all of whom bring a lifetime of expertise and real-world experiences to help bring the curriculum to life. Every element of the ELLMC program is tailored to the needs and backgrounds of international lawyers who are looking to gain strong knowledge and understanding of U.S. common law and legal concepts. The well-designed curriculum qualifies students to sit for the California Bar Exam.

Hear From Our World-Class Faculty

Clinical Professor of Law, Assistant Director, Donald Pritzker Entrepreneurship Law Center, Co-Director, JD-MBA Program

“A large proportion of Northwestern Law faculty are focused on business law subjects,

and many who teach in the ELLMC program come from practice. Our approach covers doctrine, but is also highly practical and intended to be used by international legal professionals. In addition, our student culture – and the culture of the ELLM Chicago program – is positive rather than competitive, and faculty treat the students as the expert international lawyers they are.”

“Clients want lawyers who are able to adapt to new opportunities at home and abroad.

This program offers a focused and strategic curriculum to absorb essential information in a specified period.”

Professor of Law, Associate Dean of Research and Intellectual Life

“Our program is taught primarily by the same faculty who teach these classes to JD students.

That provides LLM students with access to our best professors, both in terms of knowledge and teaching ability. The classes are smaller than most other Executive LLM programs, which provides a close relationship between students and the professors. It also permits the professors to tailor the classes to the interests of the students.”
