Who We Are

Laurie Mikva, Civil Litigation Center Director

Laurie Mikva is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Law and the Director of the Civil Litigation Clinic. She supervises second and third year law students in all aspects of civil litigation. Partnering with organizations such as Legal Aid Chicago and Cabrini Green Legal Aid, the Civil Litigation Clinic primarily represents tenants in eviction cases in the Cook County Circuit Court.

Prior to joining the Clinical Faculty, Mikva was a staff attorney at Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation in Champaign, Illinois. In 2009, she was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve, and continues to serve on the Legal Services Corporation Board of Directors. She received her J.D. from New York University College of Law. Upon graduation, Mikva clerked for Judge Luther Swygert on the Unites States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Her areas of expertise include Eviction Defense, Civil Litigation and Poverty Law.

Sarah Song, Thomas F. Geraghty Fellow

Sarah Song joined the Civil Litigation Center in August 2019 as the Thomas F. Geraghty Fellow. Sarah represents subsidized and low-income tenants facing unlawful eviction or subsidy termination. She also assists with teaching second and third year law students enrolled in the Civil Litigation Clinic and supervises students in all aspects of civil litigation. Prior to her current role, Sarah was a staff attorney at Legal Aid Chicago (formerly LAF) in the Housing Practice Group and a litigation associate at Latham and Watkins, LLP. She received her J.D. from Columbia Law School. Her work focuses on preserving subsidized housing for families and individuals with low-income and representing people with disabilities.
